The Emergency Medicine Physician provides immediate evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients presenting with acute illness or injury in the emergency department. This role requires rapid clinical decision-making, management of high-acuity and undifferentiated patients, and coordination of care across multiple specialties to ensure timely, high-quality, patient-centered outcomes.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesEvaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with a wide range of acute medical, surgical, and traumatic conditions
Perform emergency medical procedures, including airway management, resuscitation, procedural sedation, wound management, and fracture stabilization, consistent with training and privileges
Rapidly assess and prioritize patients based on acuity and clinical urgency
Interpret diagnostic studies, including laboratory tests, imaging, and electrocardiograms
Initiate stabilization, treatment, and disposition plans, including admission, transfer, or discharge
Collaborate with consulting services, nursing staff, EMS, and ancillary teams
Participate in trauma, stroke, STEMI, and sepsis response protocols, as applicable
Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up care
Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation
Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and departmental initiatives
Supervise and educate residents, advanced practice providers, and learners, as applicable
Comply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school
Completion of an accredited emergency medicine residency program
Board-eligible or board-certified in Emergency Medicine
Ability to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensure
DEA registration or eligibility
BLS, ACLS, ATLS, and PALS certification as required
Expertise in acute care medicine and emergency procedures
Strong clinical judgment and rapid decision-making abilities
Ability to perform effectively in high-stress, fast-paced environments
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Commitment to patient safety, efficiency, and evidence-based care
Emergency department within an acute care hospital
Shift-based scheduling, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Ability to stand and move continuously throughout clinical shifts
Manual dexterity for emergency procedures
Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for patient assessment and rapid response
