Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a night shift PCU/Stepdown position with telemetry in a Level 1 Trauma acute care setting requiring at least 2 years of experience and an active NE or compact RN license.
Responsibilities
- Work in a 55-bed PCU/Stepdown unit on the 4th Floor East Wing of an acute care hospital
- Adult patient population, with rare cases of patients aged 15 and older
- Common diagnoses include CVA, TIA, shortness of breath, COVID, subdural hematoma, and weakness
- RN to patient ratio is 1:4 for both day and night shifts
- Handles 12-hour night shifts (1830-0630) with every other weekend required
- Utilizes Epic EMR and Alaris IV pumps, with mechanical lifts available in every other room
- Floating may be required, typically to med-surg areas depending on need
- Nursing team supported by CNAs, charge nurse, educator, care managers, social workers, dieticians, PT, and OT
- Responsible for managing telemetry, administering common PCU drips and medications including PCA pumps, cardizem, and insulin
- Artificial nails are prohibited for all nursing staff in direct patient care
- Scrub color is navy blue for RNs
- Must pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a score of 90% or higher
- Emphasis on strong teamwork, hourly rounding, and patient responsiveness
- Holiday coverage may be required per unit guidelines
Requirements
- Active NE or compact RN license required and must be in hand at time of consideration
- Minimum of 2 years recent PCU/Stepdown nursing experience required
- Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS (all active, not pending)
- Telemetry competency required
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Must submit a copy of driver's license for address verification
- Must provide two references: one supervisor reference from within the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor reference from within the past 3 years
- Candidates may not have been employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any facility associated with CommonSpirit, including CHI and Dignity, within the past year
- Candidate's permanent residence must be at least 50 miles from the facility as verified by driver's license
