American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN for a night shift position requiring vent and pressor management skills and an active OR RN license.
Responsibilities- Position is based in an acute care ICU setting
- Primary patient population includes general medical/surgical critical care cases such as STEMI, pneumonia, COVID, DKA, stroke, overdose, and alcohol-related cases
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:2, with occasional 1:1 and may increase to 3-5:1 for overflow PCU and med/surg patients
- ICU nurses may be assigned overflow patients and are required to float to the PCU unit
- 12-hour night shifts with variable scheduling, including a 24/48 schedule
- Weekend and holiday shifts are required
- No on-call or standby requirement
- Uses Epic EMR for charting
- Central Monitoring Unit is staffed with monitor techs 24/7; RNs read and verify strip measurements
- Frequent use of V60s, BiPAP, CPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula equipment
- Core responsibilities include managing critical care patients, ventilators, and titratable drips
- Charge nurse takes patients and provides guidance as needed
- Hospitalists are in house 24/7; intensivists are available by page
- Respiratory therapists are present in the ICU 24/7
- 1-2 shifts of unit-specific orientation provided depending on prior experience
- First-time travelers are welcome with sufficient ICU experience
- No specific scrub color required, but attire must be clean and professional
- Housing options are limited for travelers with pets; special arrangements should be made in advance
- Active OR RN license required
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
- Minimum 1 year of ICU experience required, with 2.5-3 years strongly preferred
- Proficiency with ventilator and pressor management required
- Experience with titrating drips such as Precedex, insulin, epinephrine, norepinephrine, and propofol required
- Preferred experience with Impella and intra-aortic balloon pumps (IABP)
- Ability to float to PCU and manage overflow med/surg patients as needed
