An Emergency Medicine Physician provides critical care in a busy 40+ bed community emergency department, managing a volume of approximately 55,000 visits annually. Responsibilities include shift work covering varied day and night schedules, supervising advanced practice providers, responding to emergency codes, and collaborating with hospital services for patient admissions and transfers. Requires board certification, active medical licensure, and adherence to hospital credentialing and clinical protocols in a community hospital setting without trauma designation.
- Assignment Type: Locum, varied day/night shifts
- Coverage Window: Starting June 2025, ongoing
- Volume & Environment:
- 40+-bed community ED, annual volume 55,000
- Fast-track APP support (40% of ED volume)
- No trauma designation; community hospital setting
- ED admits 15% of patients; transfers 1 2/day
Provider Requirements
- Board: ABEM or AOBEM Certified (or Eligible + 5 yrs post residency)
- License: Active Massachusetts medical license
- Credentialing: 4 weeks to complete onboarding; ED privileges only, no temp privileges
- On-Call/House Codes: ED responds to codes within 30 minutes; airway duties on code team
Shift & Call Details
- Shift Types: Varied day and night
- Schedule: Ongoing need of 8 10 shifts/month in June; shifts/month in July onward
- On-Call: N/A no separate call pay; shifts include required coverage
Clinical & Operational
- Supervision: ED APPs require physician oversight
- EMR: Epic
- House Code Response: Secondary to ED; ED airway support
- Admission Orders: Written by hospitalists
- Ancillary Support: 24-hour radiology, lab, OR, anesthesia, blood ban
