American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in a teaching hospital with a focus on cardiac and PCU patient care and a 50-mile radius rule.
Responsibilities- Work in a hospital Med/Surg Tele unit transitioning to PCU focus
- Patient population includes heart failure, chest pain, COPD, cardiac cath pre/post, and medical overflow
- RN patient ratios: 1:4-6 (MedSurg/Tele), up to 1:7-8 during surge, and 1:4 (PCU)
- Every other weekend required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Travelers will work 75% of holidays
- Floating required within Region 1 facilities and scope of practice
- Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell med dispensing, and Phillips monitors
- Shift options include 0645-1915 and 1845-0715 on a 6-week schedule cycle
- Responsibilities include performing cardiac rhythm interpretation, managing telemetry patients, and providing PCU-level care
- Collaboration with CNAs for ADLs, mobility, and basic patient care tasks
- Charge nurse may or may not have an assigned patient load
- Phlebotomy is performed collaboratively between RNs, CNAs, and the IV team
- Orientation includes two departmental days plus facility onboarding
- Professional and team-oriented unit culture
- Scrub color is navy
- Up to 6 days of requested time off can be approved, not including holidays, with requirements to add missed days to contract end
- Free parking is available on site
- Active NC or compact RN license required
- Minimum 18 months recent Med/Tele RN experience required
- BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
- Experience with PIV starts, NG tube placement, management of surgical and chest drains, cardiac rhythm interpretation, non-titratable cardiac drips, and TR bands required
- Epic charting experience preferred
- First-time travelers not accepted
- Candidate’s permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the home unit
