The Raw Material Manager is responsible for overseeing sustainable log procurement and inventory management to support Montana mills’ production needs. This role leads a team, negotiates with suppliers, collaborates with industry groups, and ensures compliance with sustainability certifications. The position requires forestry expertise, strong leadership, negotiation, and supply chain management skills to maximize mill margins and shareholder value.
The Montana Raw Material Manager has a key role in the success of the Weyerhaeuser Montana mills. The position reports to the Montana Area Raw Material Manager and works closely with the Kalispell and Columbia Falls Mill Leadership Team.
The Montana Raw Material Manager is accountable for log procurement and support for the Montana Integrated mill set which includes the Kalispell Plywood and Lumber and Columbia Falls MDF mills.
The position is based in Kalispell, Montana.
In this role you will:
Lead the development and execution of a sustainable raw material log sourcing plan for the Montana mills.
Be a key leader for the Montana Raw Material and Montana mill leadership teams.
Maintain knowledge of raw material contractors and suppliers for purchased stumpage and outside log purchases. Enhance/build business relationships throughout the raw material supply chain.
Collaborate with contractors and suppliers negotiating volume and rates.
Actively participate in key collaboratives, industry groups and with agency leaders to promote sustainable harvesting in Montana Forests.
Develop working knowledge of the mill’s production processes and products and understand the key raw material attributes which impact mill margins.
Create a raw material sourcing plan targeting mill needs for volume, quality, species, and value.
Develop and manage the raw material sources and log inventory over the annual cycle to maximize mill margins.
Be responsible for leading and developing a team of Raw Material Representatives to support and guide sourcing area and plans.
Utilize skills including situational management, coaching, counseling, facilitating, performance appraisal and development, team building and time management skills as well as teaching/developing technical skills of team members.
Manage the Montana SFI Fiber Sourcing Certification
Associate's degree (or higher) in Forestry or related field, and at least 5 years equivalent job experience. Bachelor’s degree in forestry or related field is preferred.
Demonstrated excellence or experience in all procurement functional areas.
Safety leader and role model
Demonstrated collaborator with excellent communication, time management, and negotiation skills.
Knowledge of key raw material components which impact mill margins
Previous experience in: Stumpage appraisal and purchases of non-fee sales, negotiating outside purchases, valuation of third-party products, timber cruising, and cruise analysis.
Knowledge of open market supply dynamics; Understanding of customer needs.
Understanding of supply chain dynamics and details of working with public agencies on timber sale contracts.
Possesses budget and planning skills.
Knowledge of financial and cost analysis
Knowledge of timber harvest, transportation and basic lumber manufacturing
Ability to lead and collaborate with a diverse team of people.
Ability to successfully lead initiatives that maximize wood products and shareholder value.
Ability to work across organizational/functional boundaries effectively.
Excellent computer skills with ability to proficiently use Microsoft Office software as well as internal systems.
Understand the accounting systems and statements utilized in raw materials.
What We Offer:
Compensation: This role is eligible for our annual merit-increase program, and we are targeting a salary range of $98,811-$148,217 based on your level of skills, qualifications and experience. You will also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program, which offers a cash bonus targeting 10% of base pay. Potential plan funding may range from zero to two times that target.

Retirement: Employees are able to enroll in our company’s 401k plan, which includes a paid company match in addition to our contribution equal to 5% of your eligible pay.
Paid Time Off or Vacation: We provide eligible employees who are scheduled to work 25 hours or more per week with 3-weeks of paid vacation to use during your first year of employment. In addition, after being employed for six months, eligible employees begin to accrue vacation for future use. We also recognize eleven paid holidays per year, providing a total of 88 holiday hours and paid parental leave for all full-time employees.
