American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with a NE or compact license, ACLS/BLS/NIHSS certifications, and strong cardiac and trauma care skills.
Responsibilities- Work in a 33-bed adult ICU within an acute care hospital setting
- Average census of 16, caring for medical and surgical patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:2-3 for adults
- Common cases include trauma, cardiac, sepsis, stroke, overdose, vascular, renal and respiratory failure, and post-procedure care
- RNs are required to titrate cardiac, insulin, and sedation drips
- Patient monitoring with GE brand monitors; RNs must read, interpret, and document telemetry strips
- RNs provide respiratory monitoring from nasal cannula to ventilators
- Support staff includes nurse aides and healthcare support techs
- 12-hour day shifts from 06:30 to 18:30
- Every other weekend required; minimum of two holidays during contract
- Floating to PCU or MedSurg required at similar patient ratios
- Uses Epic EMR; Epic experience preferred
- Primary responsibilities include managing complex critical care patients with titratable drips and advanced monitoring
- Collaborate with support staff to deliver high-quality patient care
- Self-scheduling available for core staff; travelers are added into existing schedules
- RTO must be submitted upfront and cannot exceed seven days per 13-week contract
- Block scheduling is not approved except for weekends; duos or shared car arrangements are not permitted
- Candidates must live more than 50 miles from the facility based on driver’s license
- Orientation consists of one unit-specific shift and completion of required testing
- Travelers are integrated into the team but cannot receive block scheduling except for weekends
- Active NE or compact state RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum two years of recent ICU nursing experience
- Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required (no pending certifications accepted)
- Nurse must provide a copy of driver's license for radius compliance
- Must not have been employed directly by any facility in the CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity networks in the past year
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the last three years
- Must pass a skills-based open book exam during orientation with a score of 90% or above
- Artificial nails are not permitted in patient care areas
