American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Stepdown/Telemetry position in a Level 1 trauma acute care unit requiring a WV or compact RN license and EPIC experience.
Responsibilities- Work in a 24-bed stepdown unit within an acute care setting at a Level 1 trauma center
- Patient population includes trauma, med/surg, brain and spinal cord injuries, respiratory compromise, complex wounds, chronic ventilator dependence, and advanced diabetic management
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is typically 1:3, supported by three clinical aides per shift
- All 24 beds have telemetry monitoring and require basic EKG interpretation by RNs
- Common interventions include bipap, CPAP, chronic ventilators, blood gas interpretation, tracheostomy care, and titration of drips such as cardizem, labetalol, and amiodarone
- Uses Epic as the electronic medical record; Epic experience is required
- Night shift position, 12-hour shifts (7p–7:30a), with weekend and holiday rotation
- Floating required on a rotational basis within the unit
- The unit provides specialized care for trauma and complex med/surg patients, including advanced wound and respiratory management
- Charge nurses and 24/7 house supervisors are available for support
- All RNs must wear royal blue scrubs
- Unit orientation with a clinical preceptor will be provided
- Holiday shifts are managed on a rotational basis
- No on-call requirements for this assignment
- First-time travelers will be considered
- Candidates must pass EKG testing if assigned to stepdown
- Returning candidates must meet rehire guidelines specific to previous employment within the health system
- Active WV or compact RN license
- Minimum of 2 years of stepdown or acute care RN experience
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications required
- Proficiency with Epic EMR
- Strong assessment skills and adaptability to a fast-paced trauma environment
- Basic ability to interpret EKGs
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility for eligibility
- Previous permanent employees must have a 2-year break before returning and prior travelers must be gone 2 years if worked a full year
