The Millwright installs, assembles, and dismantles machinery and mechanical systems according to technical instructions and floor plans. This role involves transporting equipment using forklifts, cranes, and other tools, as well as precise assembly requiring knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, and electronics. The position demands journey-level practical skills and the use of precision tools to ensure proper machine function and alignment.
The Millwright is responsible for installing, assembling, and, when necessary, dismantling machinery, conveyor systems, pulleys, mechanical clutches, gear boxes, hydraulic and pneumatic control systems. The Millwright will transport and locate machines and equipment to the desired location according to floor plans, or as directed using fork lifts, hoists, winches, cranes and other equipment. Assemble machines or equipment from their component parts. The Millwright must understand how a machine functions to assemble and disassemble it properly. This may involve knowledge of electronics, pneumatics, and computer systems. The Millwright will use complex instruction books that detail the assembly of the machinery and use tools such as levels, welding machines, and hydraulic torque wrenches. The Millwright will also use micrometers and other precision measuring devices to achieve the extreme tolerances required. On large projects, the use of cranes is common. Work requires practical skill and knowledge and journey-level skill as a millwright. Candidate must also be able to perform incidental tasks as required to complete the larger task.
