American Traveler is seeking a Pediatric RN with at least one year of pediatric experience, BLS and PALS certifications, and an active WI or compact RN license for a Level 2 trauma acute care setting.
Responsibilities- Work in an acute care pediatric unit with 24 beds and an average census of 12 patients
- Patient population includes respiratory, trauma, surgical, neuro, suicide, overdose, and eating disorder cases
- Nurse to patient ratios are 1:3 for total patient care and 1:4–5 with a nursing assistant
- Night shifts (1900–0730) are required, working every other weekend and holiday (2 out of 3 for winter holidays)
- Self-scheduling in a tiered approach; block scheduling is not allowed
- Floating required to PICU, with possible NICU float if experienced, and to adult units as an observer depending on census
- Cerner EMR is used and transitioning to Epic; basic arrhythmia knowledge expected
- Responsibilities include comprehensive pediatric care, drawing labs, and central line management
- Unit is supported by nurse aides and has a charge nurse who may take a patient assignment
- Pediatric residents are in-house 24/7; intensivist is available within 10 minutes
- Standard hospital orientation plus two days of unit training provided
- First time travelers and travel duos are welcome; duos work the same weekends but cannot have identical schedules
- Clean, professional, peds-appropriate attire required
- No on-call or standby required
- Candidates living within 80 miles are considered local and may have adjusted rates
- Former permanent staff must have ended employment at least 6 months prior to consideration
- Active WI or compact RN license required by start date
- BLS (AHA) and PALS (AHA) certifications required
- Minimum one year of pediatric nursing experience required
- General peds floor skills, ability to draw labs, and central line management required
- Basic arrhythmia interpretation skills required
- Two professional references required, including one from a supervisor
