This inpatient neurologist locum tenens position in Virginia involves providing specialized neurological care, primarily stroke and general neurology consults, during scheduled 12-hour shifts one week per month. The role supports a growing academic neurology department within a modern hospital equipped with advanced medical technology and an electronic medical record system. Candidates must have prior neurology experience, an active Virginia medical license, and appropriate certifications, working collaboratively with other healthcare professionals.
Specialty Requested: NeurologistCoverage Type: Locums only or Locums to PermCoverage Request: Coverage needed Saturday at 7 AM through Friday 7PM for 1 week per monthfor inpatient neurology department. (7 shifts needed per month Friday through Saturday).Shift Hours: 7A - 7P (no call coverage). Call coverage after shift will be covered by the permanent MDstaff.Average Case Load/Workload = consults per shift. Inpatient workload consists of stroke andgeneral neurology.The practice consists of inpatient consults. You will be a part of growing academic neurologydepartment based at Roanoke campus. There is a dedicated internal medicine hospitalist programthat supports patient management 24 x 7 while the stroke on-call coverage is provided by a dedicatedstroke team. This is a modern hospital facility with EMR (EPIC), PACS, 64-slice CT and MRI. The Neurology department has a residency program with 3 residents and Chief of Neurology. Details:EMR: EPICTotal # of beds: 1035Requirements:ALS certification requiredActive VA medical license Strongly preferredPrior neurology experience requiredDemonstrates good written and oral communication skills.Board Certified preferred.Will consider Board Eligible presentations if they have graduated in the last 2-3 years.Able to work collaboratively with physicians and other health care providers.Computer literacy required for automated computer systems, including electronic medical records.Prescriptive authority in accordance with State regulations and as authorized by the Virginia Boardsof Medicine
