Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced OB/Labor & Delivery RN for a critical access hospital assignment in Alaska with on-call and floating requirements.
Responsibilities
- Work in a critical access hospital providing Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, LDRP, and Obstetrics nursing care
- Caring for antepartum, laboring, postpartum, newborn, and post-surgical C-section patients
- Primary night shift from 7 pm to 7 am on varying nights of the week
- On-call rotation required for 7 consecutive days every 3 weeks, with a 30-minute response time; cannot leave the island during on-call period
- Must be willing to float to Medical-Surgical and Emergency Departments as needed
- Assignment length is 13 weeks
- Responsibilities include care throughout the antepartum, labor, delivery, postpartum, and neonatal periods, including newborn and C-section recovery
- Provides 1:1 labor support, fetal monitoring, and care for high-risk maternal and neonatal patients, with transfer stabilization as needed
- Monitors, interprets, and documents electronic fetal heart rate tracings using NICHD terminology and performs NSTs
- Performs patient education, breastfeeding support, triage, procedures, and well-baby checks
- Leads and delegates to CNAs and other staff, supporting a collaborative team environment
- Must be able to respond calmly and make sound decisions in emergency and trauma situations
- Holiday, weekend, and after-hours responsibilities are part of the position
- Must comply with dress code and participate in ongoing training and competency checks
Requirements
- Active and unrestricted Alaska RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum of 2 years recent Labor & Delivery RN experience
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP upon hire
- Must obtain flu vaccination
- ICPA background check with fingerprint submission required prior to start
- Ability to work independently and react promptly in emergencies
