Emergency Department Registered Nurse
Assignment DurationThis is a 13-week contract position.
ScheduleFull-time day or night shifts (3x12s) scheduled as needed, including every other weekend and holidays, plus 2 on-call shifts per 4-week period.
Job DescriptionThe Emergency Department Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high-quality compassionate care to patients and families. The ED RN assesses patient need, identifies the urgent or emergent care priority, and collaboratively provides direct care, applies appropriate interventions, and evaluates patient progress. The ED RN evidences skill in the use of various invasive and non-invasive procedures, treatments, and therapeutic interventions appropriate to manage life-threatening and routine emergency situations. The ED RN utilizes the principles of relationship-based care to alleviate anxiety, provide information, and address pain/discomfort and safety. He/She assesses the physiological, psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients of all age groups, their families, and support systems as appropriate.
Responsibilities- Connects with patient and family during triage, identifying initial management and prioritizing care according to Triage Standards.
- Conducts primary assessments and documents any major deviations from the norm for all age groups.
- Encourages and builds mutual trust and respect among team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
- Prepares patients and families for diagnostic procedures and makes appropriate referrals for post-emergency care.
- Maintains awareness of the patient's condition and updates patient communication boards during their ED stay.
- Two years acute hospital experience as a Registered Nurse.
- One year of Emergency Department hospital experience as a Registered Nurse.
- BLS, ACLS, PALS, Stroke Certification (must be AHA or RQI).
