American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric Acute unit position requiring an active IL RN license and certification in BLS and PALS.
Responsibilities- Work in the Pediatric Acute unit within an acute care hospital
- 22-bed pediatric unit shared with a 10-bed pediatric hematology/oncology unit, with capacity to adjust based on census
- Patient population includes medical and surgical pediatric cases such as hyperbilirubinemia, neuro, diabetes, failure to thrive, cystic fibrosis, COVID, and orthopedic conditions
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4 on the pediatric unit
- Uses Epic EMR; Epic experience is preferred but not required
- Pediatric monitor techs are available to monitor telemetry patients
- Shifts are 12 hours, with schedules of either 7:00am-7:30pm or 7:00pm-7:30am
- Every other weekend is required (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri/Sat)
- Holiday shifts are required unless otherwise arranged and approved
- RNs may float to other pediatric units and mom/baby units, excluding ICUs and chemo patients unless qualified
- Charge RN and pediatric crisis RN available 24/7 for support, with administrative supervisor oversight
- Patient care techs (PCTs) on the unit with a 1:8-10 ratio
- Hospitalist coverage in-house until midnight and 24/7 resident coverage is provided
- RNs may be required to troubleshoot heated high-flow oxygen and BiPAP under specific parameters
- Pediatric-appropriate scrubs in any color or pattern are acceptable, with solid color pants, per dress code
- Unit-specific orientation consists of two shifts with potential extension if needed
- No COVID vaccine requirement for this assignment
- No radius rule applies, but local pay rates are used for candidates residing within 50 miles
- Active IL RN license is required at the time of consideration
- Minimum of 2 years RN experience required
- Current BLS (AHA) and PALS (AHA) certifications are required
- Prior acute pediatric experience strongly preferred
- Comfort working with medical and surgical pediatric cases
- Ability to perform within a Level 1 trauma environment
