Title: Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) – Acute Care Hospital
Location: Anchorage, AK 99508
Duration: 13 weeks
Shift: Day 5x8-Hour (08:30 - 17:00)
Responsibilities:
Provide inpatient SLP care in an acute hospital setting.
Manage unit census of 50–70 patients daily; collaborate with 5–6 SLPs on weekdays and 3–4 on weekends.
Conduct FEES (Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing) and MBS (Modified Barium Swallow) evaluations; all SLPs must complete MBS-IMP.
Treat patients across the care continuum, from ICU-level to SNF/Outpatient-level; ICU rotation not required, but readiness may be assessed.
Perform bedside swallow evaluations, dysphagia management, compensatory strategies, and use of alternative communication devices (communication boards, memory aids, augmentative communication).
Conduct assessments, evaluations, discharges, and reassessments; complete SLP evaluation coding and plan of care.
Provide patient/family education and functional maintenance programs.
Participate in interdisciplinary care and in-service training as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum 1 year of experience as an SLP.
BLS certification.
State license in Alaska (AK).
Experience with aphasia, apraxia, dementia/Alzheimer's, and adult patients.
Telephone call management experience related to patient care.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with ICU patients, dysarthria, fluency, laryngectomy, tracheostomy, ventilator-assisted patients, TBI, CVA, degenerative diseases, hearing impairments, and behavioral/neurodevelopmental disorders.
Experience with transfer training, video fluoroscopy, coma stimulation, multiple sclerosis, and muscular dystrophy.
Knowledge of adaptive equipment and thermal simulation techniques.
