American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care (Stepdown/PCU) night shift position requiring NE or compact licensure and strong critical care certifications.
Responsibilities- Work in a 35-bed Progressive Care Unit (stepdown) within an acute care hospital setting
- Adult and geriatric patient population including cardiac, nephrology, stroke, diabetes, and continuous EEG monitoring cases
- Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5
- Required to titrate drips such as Cardizem, beta blockers, and seizure medications
- 12-hour night shifts, 1830-0700
- Requires work every other weekend and every third holiday
- Floating required to medical floors, ICU, or rehab
- Epic EMR is used on the unit
- Provide complex care to patients with acute and chronic conditions requiring stepdown level monitoring
- Collaborate with charge nurses and patient care techs, typically with a tech ratio of 1:10 or 2:20
- A fast-paced unit where success is supported by strong communication, critical thinking, and teamwork
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas
- First week consists of onboarding with 1-2 days of orientation on the floor
- RTO (requested time off) limited to 7 days or fewer for each 13-week contract and must be approved up front; no additional RTO granted after starting
- No on-call or standby requirements
- Holiday coverage is expected based on unit rotation
- Active NE or compact RN license in hand; pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
- Ability to titrate cardiac and seizure drips
- Driver's license required for verification of residence
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
- Cannot have been employed full time, part time, or PRN by any CommonSpirit facility (including CHI/Dignity) in the last year
- Passing a 90% open-book skills exam during orientation is required for continued employment
- Two professional references: one supervisor from the past 12 months, one supervisor or peer from the past 3 years
