Seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Internal Medicine physician with Critical Care training for nocturnal intensivist shifts across Alta Bates Summit Medical Center ICUs in Oakland and Berkeley. Role involves managing a mixed 36-bed and 30-bed ICU (medical, surgical, cardiac surgery, neuro), collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, participating in committees, and working an average of 10 night shifts per month using EPIC. Position requires an active California medical license and offers competitive hourly compensation ($367,200–$440,640 annualized).

Local Team Collaboration:
- Join our close-knit Alta Bates Intensivist team, working across our ICU programs in Oakland and Berkeley.
- Our providers are involved with numerous work groups, including the Sutter-wide critical care clinical improvement committee, ICU subject matter expert group, code blue committee, pulmonary embolism review committee, the ICU celebration of life committee, and more.
Qualifications:
- Board-certified or board-eligible critical care physicians (MD or DO).
- A commitment to excellence in clinical service, with strong problem-solving abilities essential for the ICU setting.
- Active California medical license
Scheduling:
- Average of 10-night shifts per month. We work together to make a monthly schedule we can all agree upon.
Key Responsibilities:
- Our Summit campus is a comprehensive stroke center and STEMI center with a robust cardiac surgery program, including a structural heart program and ECMO service. Our 36 bed ICU is a mixed unit with medical, surgical, cardiac surgery, and neuro patients. We have an Internal Medicine residency program that started in 2024.
- Our Ashby campus is a primary stroke center and is home to the largest birthing center in the East Bay. Our ICU has a capacity of 30 beds, but typically 16 of the beds are open and being used at any given time. We have excellent relationships with consulting services like IR, GI, and Anesthesia.
- We work in EPIC, with access to our own internal informatics platform.
Living and Working in the East Bay:
- Our team is a social group and meets occasionally for nights out. Additionally, we indulge in our amazing local restaurant scene as well as our beautiful local parks. Nearby, we have access to the parks along the San Francisco Bay and redwood-covered East Bay hills. We are one hour from wine country and three hours from the Sierra Nevada mountains.
