The Registered Dietitian provides individualized medical nutrition therapy to patients under close supervision, conducting nutritional assessments and monitoring progress to improve health outcomes. They utilize clinical expertise and order-writing privileges to manage nutrition support and serve as a resource to staff while participating in quality improvement activities. This role requires licensure, certification, and ongoing professional development within a healthcare setting.
Completes nutritional assessments and documents results using the Nutrition Care Process.
Utilizes the principles of the Nutrition Focused Physical Exam to identify malnutrition and/or micronutrient deficiencies.
Utilizes order-writing privileges to include initiating and managing nutrition support. Serves as a nutrition resource to departmental and organizational staff, precept dietetic interns and nutrition students.
Assesses knowledge, skills, and abilities for self-development and goal setting.
Participates in quality improvement activities within the clinical nutrition team. Completes annual requirements for Registered Dietitian.
Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
Required: Bachelor’s degree in nutrition or a related field
EXPERIENCE:
Required: 0-1 years in clinical nutrition following pre-professional experience
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:
Required:
BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
Certification as a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist (RDN) as issued by the Commission on Dietetic Registration
AND
Licensure as a Dietitian/Nutritionist as issued by the North Carolina Board of Dietetics/Nutrition (NCBDN)
OR
completion of a Supervised Practice Program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) as evidenced by an original Verification Statement supplied by the Program Director in a color ink other than black and dated within the previous 12 months.
PLUS
a provisional license from the North Carolina Board of Dietetics/Nutrition (NCBDN) must be obtained prior to starting employment in conjunction with the original verification statement.
The incumbent must become registered and licensed within 6 months of employment.
