American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Stepdown PCU position requiring a NE or compact RN license and strong telemetry skills.
Responsibilities- Work in a 33-bed Stepdown/PCU unit within an acute care hospital setting
- Patient population includes young adults through geriatrics with diagnoses such as sepsis, STEMI, CHF, chest pain, COVID, stroke, renal failure, COPD, DKA, and multisystem failure
- Nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5
- Required to titrate drips including Heparin, Amiodarone, Cardizem, Nitroglycerin, IV antibiotics, and Insulin
- Uses Epic EMR for charting
- RNs must read and interpret their own tele strips
- BiPAP and Airvo equipment used on unit
- 12-hour day shifts (0630-1900), scheduled by unit schedulers
- Every other weekend required
- Holiday coverage as needed per unit requirement
- May float to MedSurg, Inpatient Rehab, or Skilled Care
- Engage in high patient flow, with admitting and discharging within short time frames during shift changes
- Teamwork and a positive, can-do attitude are essential for success on this unit
- Commitment to bedside report, hourly rounding, and a positive patient experience is expected
- Charge nurses are present on every shift and CNAs are available based on census
- Pass/Fail open-book exam on orientation Friday; minimum 90% score required to remain on assignment
- First week orientation includes classroom training and two 12-hour floor shifts
- Scrub color requirement is navy blue; artificial nails are prohibited
- Request for time off (RTO) must be submitted up front and cannot exceed 7 days per 13-week contract
- Active NE or compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum of 2 years RN experience in a similar setting
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
- Experience with telemetry monitoring and titrating critical drips required
- Must provide a driver's license to verify residence outside a 50-mile radius
- Cannot have been employed full-time, part-time, or PRN by CommonSpirit affiliates (including CHI or Dignity) within the past year
- Professional references required: one supervisor from the last 12 months, and one supervisor or peer from the last 3 years
