American Traveler is seeking an experienced ICU RN with an active AZ or Compact license, ACLS and BLS certifications, and strong EKG skills for night shifts in an acute care setting.
Responsibilities- Position is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) within an acute care hospital
- Care setting includes CVICU, COVID ICU, Medical-Surgical ICU, and PCU areas under one critical care service line
- Nurse to patient ratios in ICU are 1:1-2 based on acuity, and PCU ratios are 1:3-4
- Treats a variety of patients including cardiac, neuro, surgical, DKA, sepsis, CRRT, VAD, IABP, Impella, TAVR, STEMI, PCI, CEA, detox, and more
- Handles critical care procedures such as manual proning, EVD management, vent troubleshooting/weaning, chest tubes, art lines, and Swan-Ganz catheters
- Responsible for titrating all critical care drips including pressors, paralytics, sedation, antiarrhythmics, and anticoagulants
- Uses Cerner EMR; experience preferred
- 12-hour night shifts, schedule made 4 weeks in advance, may require self-scheduling
- Required to work two weekend night shifts per pay period, may vary
- Must float to PCU, MST, and other ICU/PCU units as needed with core staff
- May be on call for low census situations, typically not scheduled
- First to float policy applies
- RNs are responsible for reading their own telemetry strips using Nihon Khoden monitors
- Travelers may take fresh open heart patients if qualified and skills are checked off by facility staff
- Unit uses a buddy system for initial orientation and provides a preceptor for the first 12-hour shift
- Charge nurses cover rapid response and code blue; house supervisor is present 24/7
- No nurse aids or monitor techs are present on the unit
- Intensivists are in house 24/7, with additional NP support
- RNs are expected to cover at least one winter holiday and one holiday eve per contract
- Professional scrubs required (any color, but going to navy scrubs in October; camo scrubs not allowed)
- Must successfully complete sterile technique assessment for Foley and central line dressing changes on the first day of orientation
- Failure of required tests or exams on the second attempt results in ineligibility for 6 months
- First-time travelers are considered
- Active AZ or Compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU experience required
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
- Strong EKG reading and interpretation skills required
- Experience with weaning and troubleshooting ventilators required
- Preferred experience with IABP and Prismaflex CRRT
- Must pass dysrhythmia/EKG exam with 80% or higher (two attempts allowed prior to contract signing)
- Ability to interpret ABGs and manage invasive lines and devices
- Must provide two recent references: one supervisor reference from last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from last 3 years, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
- Must provide valid driver’s license for verification
- Candidates must not have worked full time, part time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit (CHI/Dignity) facility within the past year
- Candidate's residence must be more than 50 miles from the facility
