American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg night shift assignment requiring a WV or compact RN license and BLS certification.
Responsibilities- Position is in an acute care Med/Surg setting on Level 8
- 48-bed unit with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5-7 during days and 1:6-8 at night
- Common patient cases include pneumonia, UTI, altered mental status, GI bleed, alcohol withdrawal, and falls/weakness
- 12-hour night shifts, every other weekend required
- Holiday rotation may be required according to unit needs
- No self-scheduling or block scheduling; schedules are managed by the unit manager
- Floating may be required to other Med/Surg, Med/Surg-Tele, or IMC units with lower acuity patients
- Cerner Soarian is the EMR used in this unit
- Charge nurse is present on each shift; may or may not have patient assignment based on staffing
- Patient care techs and nurse aides provide assistance with vitals, BGM, EKGs, baths, feeding, toileting, and patient positioning
- Respiratory therapy handles all respiratory equipment, but RNs monitor patients as needed
- Monitor techs interpret telemetry; RNs are not required to read telemetry strips
- Unit orientation includes 1 day with an educator for computer training and 1 day with a preceptor
- Floating and shift pull rotation may occur as needed to support unit operations
- Navy blue scrubs required for RNs
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Travelers cannot work within the health system for more than one year consecutively and must observe a 2-year break before returning
- Active WV or compact RN license required
- BLS certification required
- Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg RN experience required
- Must be able to titrate non-cardiac drips such as heparin, bumex, and lasix
- Experience with 48-bed acute Med/Surg units preferred
- Copy of unexpired Driver's License required for consideration
- Must not reside within a 50-mile radius of the facility
- Returning travelers to the health system must have a 2-year break before reapplying
