The Gastroenterology Physician provides inpatient care including consultation and procedures such as endoscopies, colonoscopies, and ERCP, primarily in a hospital setting with 24-hour call coverage. The role requires board certification or eligibility in Gastroenterology, Texas licensure, and the use of EMR systems like Paragon and EPIC. The physician collaborates with GI nursing staff and hospitalists to manage patients with various gastrointestinal conditions during scheduled inpatient rounds and procedures.

- Specific Dates:
- February: 2/22(am)-2/23(am)
- March: 3/2(am)-3/3(am), 3/9(am)-3/16(am), 3/21(am)-3/23(am)
- May: 5/2(am)-5/4(am)
- August: 8/7(am)-8/10(am)
- September: 9/18(am)-9/19(am)
- October: 10/16(am)-10/19(am)
- November: 11/2(am)-11/3(am)
- December: 12/11(am)-12/14(am)
Clinical Details
- Setting: Inpatient only
- no outpatient work only in house and ER consults with procedures generated from those
- Required Procedures: Normal GI procedures including endoscopies, colonoscopies, and ERCP
- EMR: Currently using Paragon, switching to EPIC later in 2026
- Support Staff: Endoscopy trained GI nursing staff for procedures
- Patients per Day: Up to 10 patients per day to round on, procedures as needed
- Types of Cases: Abdominal pain, GI bleed, SBO, food bolus, ulceration, gastritis, potential carcinoma diagnosis (no treatment)
- Anesthesia: Anesthesia backup available, conscious sedation preferred
- Rounding involved
- Patient Admission: Handled by the hospitalist
Requirements
- Gastroenterology Board Certification: Board Certified (Highly Preferred) or Board Eligible accepted
- State License: TX
- Gastroenterology Residency
- Certifications: ACLS
- Malpractice: Clean record (Highly Preferred)
- ERCP Capability
