American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Cardiovascular ICU role requiring Level I trauma experience, strong IV skills, and an active AZ or compact RN license.
Responsibilities- Position located in a Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) within an acute hospital setting
- Unit has 24 beds and cares for post-cardiac surgery, lung transplant, thoracic, and high-acuity cardiac patients
- Patient ratios are typically 1:1 or 1:2, with a high number of 1:1 assignments
- Use of advanced equipment including Impella, IABP, CRRT, ECMO, and telemetry (Phillips)
- Cerner EMR is used on the unit
- 12-hour night shifts (7pm-7am) with at least 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
- Required to work 2 out of 4 major holidays in rotation
- Floating required to other ICUs and all Telemetry units, and occasionally to the Westgate campus, where patient ratios are 4:1 on Tele
- Two days of floor-specific orientation, plus 12 hours general orientation
- Main responsibilities include managing highly acute CVICU patients recovering from complex procedures and supporting bedside procedures such as bronchoscopy and swan placements
- High-acuity environment with frequent exposure to transplant and advanced cardiac care patients
- Collaborate with a team including an in-house intensivist during the day and on-call at night, as well as pharmacy and respiratory therapy available 24/7
- Travelers are first to float before permanent staff as needed
- First day orientation includes skills verification in SIMs Lab with pass/fail requirements, and nurses must demonstrate competence in sterile technique
- Navy scrubs are required
- Return candidates must not have been employed at any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity hospital within the last year
- Active AZ or compact RN license is required at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU nursing experience, Level I trauma experience required
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; CCRN preferred
- Strong IV skills required as there is no dedicated IV team
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam and a pass/fail SIMs Lab competency for sterile technique (Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes) on first day of orientation
- Must comply with facility-specific dress code: natural hair color and no facial piercings, men must be clean-shaven for fit testing
- Must provide two professional references, including one supervisor from the past 12 months and another supervisor or peer from the past 3 years with documented dates of employment
- Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to qualify
