American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Tele/PCU position requiring PCU experience, night shifts, and strong cardiac monitoring skills.
Responsibilities- Acute care stepdown unit with a focus on medical, telemetry, and progressive care patients
- Unit has 32 beds serving adult and geriatric populations
- Common patient diagnoses include cardiac caths, EP studies, pacers, ETOH, Covid requiring Bipap, general surgical patients with cardiac history, pneumonia, sepsis, and acute on chronic conditions
- Nurse to patient ratios are 1:4-5, occasionally 1:5-6 on nights, with PCU overflow at 1:3
- Cardiac monitoring with portable and room monitors; tele tech support at nurses station
- RNs required to titrate drips including Amio, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, and low dose Dopamine
- Care of patients with Bipap, trachs, Airvo and similar RT equipment
- Uses Epic EMR system
- 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend and holiday requirements
- Floating required within PCU, Med/Surg, and ER holds/boarding, with travelers as first to float
- Care for a varied adult and geriatric population with complex medical and cardiac needs
- Team includes charge nurse on each shift who may occasionally take a light patient load
- Patient care techs typically assigned at a 1:10 ratio
- Unit orientation consists of two 12-hour shifts, followed by independent work
- Any color scrubs are acceptable
- Must submit all RTO requests upfront, with a maximum of 7 days approved per contract
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Active ND or compact RN license required and must be in hand
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience with recent, proven PCU experience
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips independently
- Experience titrating cardiac drips and caring for a cardiac telemetry population
- Epic experience preferred
- Must not have been employed full time, part time, or PRN at any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI or Dignity) within the past year
- Permanent residence must be at least 50 miles from the facility
