The Internal Medicine Physician leads clinical care by upholding standards, supervising medical staff, and coordinating patient-centered healthcare services. They diagnose and manage a range of acute and chronic illnesses while fostering a culturally competent environment that serves diverse student populations. This role also includes supporting educational rotations, collaborating with counseling services, and engaging in community health outreach and wellness initiatives.
In this capacity, the lead physician is responsible for upholding clinical standards, coordinating peer and chart reviews, and ensuring adherence to best practices in medical care. They provide hands-on supervision to medical providers, supervision of physician assistant (s), oversee academic medical rotations, and respond to clinical emergencies. A strong commitment to cultural humility is central to this role, ensuring a culturally competent healthcare environment that serves students of all backgrounds, identities, and abilities. The lead physician works directly with all staff to coordinate the best possible patient experience, ensuring seamless, patient-centered care that meets the evolving needs of the campus community.
Clinically, the Lead Physician will diagnose and manage acute and chronic illnesses, perform pelvic exams and reproductive health services, provide preventive care and health education, and coordinate referrals to specialty and emergency care as needed. They will also work closely with University Counseling and Psychological Services to facilitate integrated care for students.
The ideal candidate has track record of innovative problem-solving, culturally competent care, and effective leadership in a student health or primary care, outpatient setting. They should possess the ability to engage and mentor staff, communicate empathetically, and cultivate a clinical environment that prioritizes excellence, mutual respect, and trust.
Proficiency in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems and New York State electronic prescribing protocols is essential. Additionally, the Lead Physician will participate in health education, community outreach, and university-wide wellness initiatives, supporting the vast health needs of students.
