The Extruder Assistant supports the safe and efficient operation of extrusion and laminating machinery, ensuring production quality, waste control, and safety compliance. Responsibilities include equipment monitoring, material handling, production data reporting, forklift operation, and training newer assistants. The role requires mechanical aptitude, basic computer skills, and the ability to manage multiple tasks within a manufacturing environment.
- Hours: Night Shift - 7pm-7am 3/2 Schedule
- Training: During day shift hours
- Pay: $21-$23 based on experience
- Operate the extrusion/laminating line to ensure adherence to safety, quality, and production standards.
- Communicate effectively (orally/written) with other departments to resolve mechanical problems, report defective material, coordinate job preparations and changeovers.
- Accurately report production metrics (waste, WIP, time codes, raw materials) through the company system (e.g., Prism).
- Train assistants on core job functions, and manage their duties (e.g., preparing rolls, removing rolls from rewind) as applicable.
- Prepare printed rolls for lamination/unwind and assist with rewind and housekeeping tasks (removal/weighing of startup rolls, waste, etc.).
- Keep the work area clean; perform daily housekeeping related to the extrusion/laminating area.
- Obtain forklift certification and operate forklift when required.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Must have at least one year of experience as an extruder assistant or extrusion role.
- Ability to accurately read a tape measure and perform basic calculations/counting.
- Self-directed, able to multitask and follow directions.
- Strong time-management, problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
- Basic computer proficiency (e.g., entering production data, accessing systems).
- Ability to lead/manage performance of others (where applicable) and operate a forklift.
