Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit night shift, requiring an active IL license and prior neuro unit and travel experience.

Responsibilities

• Position is in an acute Neuro Med-Surg unit with 54 beds
• Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, and some medical overflow
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4-5 days and 1:5-6 nights
• Utilizes Epic EMR; experience required
• 12-hour night shifts (1900–0700) with every other weekend and holiday rotation
• RNs may float in rotation with the rest of the staff and take full assignments on general unit floors
• Charge nurse and house supervisor are present 24/7; charge nurse typically does not take an assignment
• Nurse aides or patient care techs are on the unit with varying ratios by shift
• RNs are not required to read telemetry strips; Phillips monitors in use
• COVID patients are admitted rarely; high flow O2 for stable COVID only
• Scrub color is not specified, but tattoos must be covered and only ear piercings are allowed
• Unit-specific orientation includes two days with an educator and preceptor
• No COVID vaccine is required for employment
• No call or standby requirements
• Local rates apply to candidates residing within 50 miles

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required at time of consideration
• Minimum 1 year of recent hospital RN experience
• Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Level 1 trauma experience is required
• Heparin drip titration experience required
• Prior travel nursing experience is mandatory; first-time travelers will not be considered
• Experience working on a dedicated neuro unit is required
