About the RoleSeeking a skilled Respiratory Therapist to join a collaborative acute-care team. This permanent position provides hands-on care across all patient populations with an emphasis on adult and critical care. The RT will perform respiratory procedures in accordance with evidence-based standards while supporting patients on general floors, intermediate care, ICU, and the ED.
Key Responsibilities- Perform respiratory care within the Illinois Respiratory Therapy Practice Act.
- Deliver treatments and therapies as ordered, including aerosolized medications, medical gas administration, airway clearance, and oxygen delivery.
- Initiate, monitor, and manage mechanical ventilation (including advanced modes such as high-frequency ventilation, inverse I:E, and specialty gases like Nitric Oxide, Heliox, and Nitrogen).
- Serve as the primary airway manager during Blue Alerts and respond to Rapid Response/emergent calls.
- Assess patients and recommend changes in therapy based on clinical response.
- Document all care per regulatory and TJC/Medicare standards.
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, especially in ICU and intermediate care settings.
- Monitor equipment and supply levels for patient care areas.
- Successful completion of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.
- Current Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) License in Illinois.
- Current NBRC credentials (RRT required; new grads must pass TMC + CSE and have applied for IL licensure before starting).
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
- Basic EMR documentation skills.
- Understanding that this is a drug-free campus—all hires must pass a full panel drug screen.
- New grads considered; 1+ year of experience preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 60 lbs, push/pull equipment up to 35 lbs initial force.
- Ability to stand up to 4 hours at a time, bend/stoop, and assist with patient positioning.
- Manual dexterity and the ability to communicate clearly.
- Visual capability including color vision.
- Ability to review and verify documentation accurately.
