Practice Environment:• Busy Emergency Department averaging 110 patients per day• Trauma Level III facility• Annual ED volume: approximately 40,000 visits• 42-bed Emergency Department• Fast Track available and staffed by APPs• Approximately 15% of ED volume treated via Fast Track
Staffing & Support:• Full nursing support• APP coverage: 12 hours daily• Emergency Medicine residents on-site• Locum physician will supervise APPs and residents• ED staff does not respond to house codes• Hospitalist team writes admission orders
Facility Metrics:• 70% of hospital admissions originate from the ED• 22% of ED patients admitted per day• Less than 1% of ED patients transferred
Clinical Scope & Required Skills:• Adult and pediatric emergency care• Newborn resuscitation• Management of non-displaced fractures• Suturing and incision & drainage• Psychiatric evaluation (adult, pediatric, geriatric - uncomplicated)• Airway management and ventilation support• Evaluation and management of acute volume and blood pressure issues• Central line and arterial line placement• EKG interpretation• Arthrocentesis, lumbar puncture, paracentesis• Full range of emergency medicine procedures
Candidate Requirements:• Board Certified Emergency Medicine - ABEM or AOBEM only (no BE)• Emergency Medicine experience - Highly preferred• Active Michigan license required at time of name clear (no IMLC)• BLS - Required• Provider must be local - Required, no exceptions
