American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical ICU night shift position requiring 2 years of ICU and 1 year of travel experience, with ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications.
Responsibilities- Work in the Medical ICU (MICU) of an acute care setting with a trauma level II designation
- Unit has 16 beds with a nurse to patient ratio of 1:2, and 1:1 for higher acuity patients
- Treats patients with respiratory, stroke, neuro, GI, cardiac, and other critical conditions
- RNs titrate all ICU drips including propofol, precedex, and vasopressors
- Uses Cerner EMR system, transitioning to Epic
- Proficient rhythm interpretation required; RNs read their own strips
- 12 hour night shifts with every other weekend and holiday required
- Self-scheduling is available, but block scheduling is not guaranteed
- No on-call requirements
- Floating to like units or as a patient observer may be required, with travelers first to float
- Support team includes a charge nurse (without patient assignment), one nurse aide per unit, respiratory therapists 24/7, and in-house intensivist teams
- Unit uses a wide range of respiratory equipment including ventilators, BiPAP/CPAP, vapotherm, tracheostomy care, and nitric oxide delivery
- Orientation includes one day hospital orientation and two days unit-specific orientation
- No specific scrub color required, but attire must be clean and professional
- Clock in and out required for all clinicians
- Holiday coverage is required for every other holiday or more, depending on unit needs
- Active WI or compact RN license (must be active by assignment start date)
- Current ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), and NIHSS certifications required
- Minimum of 2 years recent ICU RN experience and 1 year travel RN experience required
- Proficiency with ICU drips and advanced respiratory support modalities
- Experience reading cardiac rhythms independently is required
- Two professional references required: one supervisor and one peer or supervisor from specialty
- Former employees must have separated at least 6 months prior and hospital approval is required
- Candidates living within 80 miles are considered local and subject to a reduced rate
