• Specialty: PCU / IMU / Oncology Float Pool

Schedule

• Shift: Night, 3×12 (19:00–07:00)

• Scheduling: Fixed schedule assigned by facility

• RN notified 2 hours prior to shift regarding assigned facility

Float Expectations (HARD STOP)

• RN must be comfortable floating to ALL locations:

  • Thornton (La Jolla)

  • Jacobs (La Jolla)

  • Hillcrest

  • East Campus (La Mesa)

• May float to EDIP (ED inpatient overflow)

• Floating across:

  • PCU

  • IMU

  • Tele

  • Med-Surg (based on census)

Staffing Ratios

• IMU: 1:3

• Tele: 1:4

• Med-Surg: 1:5

Experience Requirements (HARD STOPS)

• Minimum 2 years of PCU experience REQUIRED

• Chemotherapy Certification REQUIRED

• First-time travelers: Accepted

• Must be comfortable with high-acuity and frequent floating

Required Certifications

• BLS

• ACLS

• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

• Chemotherapy Certification

Required Clinical Skills

• IV starts

• Telemetry monitoring

• Phlebotomy

• Arterial line (A-line) experience

• Oncology patient care

• PCU / IMU level acuity management

Patient Population

• Adults

• Oncology and medical-surgical patients across:

  • General medicine

  • Surgical

  • Neuro

  • Oncology

  • Cardiac

  • Ortho

Floating & Coverage

• Floating: Required

• Weekend coverage: Per unit needs

• Call: As per unit policy

Orientation

• Orientation hours provided (unit based)

Vaccination Requirements

• COVID-19 vaccine booster (medical/religious exemptions only)

• Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only)

Key Submission Notes

• CHEMO CERT IS A HARD STOP

• Must accept floating to 4 campuses EDIP

• No block or self-scheduling

• Strong PCU skill set required

• Ideal for flexible, high-acuity RNs comfortable in float roles
