ACU / Stepdown RN – Unit Profile (Clean & Concise) ⚠️ All submittals must include an UNEXPIRED copy of the candidate’s driver’s license Unit: Advanced Care Unit (ACU) – Stepdown | Cost Center 23 Beds: 30 (All private rooms) Ratios: 1:4 Certifications Required: BLS ACLS NIHSS Patient Population / Diagnoses: Stroke, Trauma & Vascular (designated unit) Fem pops, Carotids (4–5 fresh at a time), DKA, AKA Post-cath patients (TR bands & femoral access) Sheaths are NOT pulled on this unit Required Experience: Stepdown-level acuity experience Telemetry experience; must be able to read & interpret strips Drips: Titrated: Cardizem (per MD order) Set/Titrated: Insulin, Heparin Support Staff: Charge Nurse 24/7 (Night charge always takes an assignment) 3 PCTs per shift (1:10 ratio) Monitor techs available (RNs must read, verify & sign strips) Respiratory Equipment: CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow (stable vents planned for future) Telemetry: Yes Shifts: Days: 07:00–19:30 Nights: 19:00–07:30 Self & block scheduling allowed (not guaranteed) Weekends: Every other weekend Days: Sat/Sun | Nights: Fri/Sat/Sun Holidays: Perm staff rotate; travelers may be required if unit needs Floating: Travelers float first May float down to MedSurg/Tele or up to ICU (ACU-level patients only) May float to CV Stepdown; not CVICU Call Requirement: Very rare Scrubs: Royal Blue Only scrub jackets allowed (no hoodies or sweat jackets) Orientation: Day 1: HR + Clinical Educator + Unit shadow Day 2: Shadow Day 3: Independent assignment
