American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position, requiring 3 years of recent L&D experience and night shift availability.
Responsibilities- Provide care in a hospital Labor & Delivery unit with 11 L&D rooms, 2 C-section suites, and 17 postpartum beds
- Unit follows AWHONN staffing guidelines with ratios of 1:1 for intrapartum, 1:1-3 for antepartum, and 1:3-4 for postpartum/mother-baby
- Average 5-6 deliveries per day, with 150-180 per month
- Cares for patients 30+ weeks gestation; patients under 30 weeks are stabilized and transferred
- Scheduled for 12-hour night shifts (3x12), including every other weekend and potential holiday rotation
- Travelers may float primarily between L&D and Postpartum/Mother-Baby units and occasionally to other areas for sitter shifts
- Uses Epic EMR; Epic experience preferred
- Duties include managing laboring and postpartum patients, participating in high-risk deliveries, circulating for C-sections, and titrating medication drips
- Collaborate with a team that includes charge/resource nurses, CSTs, CNAs, OBs, neonatologists, and CRNAs
- Three days of unit-specific orientation provided with a preceptor
- Required to wear navy blue scrubs
- Travelers are typically the first to float if needed
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Block scheduling and special scheduling requests are not accepted
- No Critical Access Hospital-only experience accepted
- Active ID or compact RN license required at time of consideration
- Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, NRP, and Intermediate or Advanced AWHONN Fetal Monitoring (or NCC Certified Fetal Monitoring)
- Minimum 3 years of recent Labor & Delivery RN experience
- Experience in both L&D and Postpartum required
- Ability to care for high-risk L&D patients and to circulate in C-sections
- Experience titrating drips such as Pitocin, magnesium, and insulin preferred
- Must be comfortable in a Level 3 trauma hospital with 24/7 CRNA and respiratory therapy support
- Epic charting experience preferred
- Driver's license required
- Must provide two professional references: one supervisor within past 12 months and one peer or supervisor within past 3 years (must document employment dates and rehire eligibility)
- No local candidates; must live at least 50 miles from the facility
- Former permanent employees must be away for at least one year before being eligible
