American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring a SD or compact RN license and proficiency with telemetry and Epic.
Responsibilities- Work in the Medical PCU of a hospital setting
- Care for a mixed adult patient population: 90% Med/Surg, 10% Intermediate Care, including long length-of-stay patients
- Common conditions include DKA with insulin drips, pre/post-surgical care, respiratory and cardiac conditions, renal and hepatic failure, GI disorders, minor trauma, and CVA overflow
- Patient ratios: Med/Surg/NO Tele 1:5-6, Med/Surg/Tele 1:5, Intermediate Care 1:4, with assignment in 10-12 patient pods
- Handle oral, IV, IM, SQ meds, titratable vasoactive drips, TPN/tube feeding, and blood product transfusions
- Manage peripheral IVs, midlines, PICCs, central lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, and various drains
- Telemetry monitoring required; nurses must read and interpret cardiac strips
- Uses Epic EMR (experience required), Omnicell, and Alaris
- 12-hour day shifts with 36 hours per week and weekend rotation; up to 4 of 6 weekends may be scheduled
- No mandatory call; may be placed on call for extra shifts only
- Floating required to any adult inpatient unit within scope, including Med/Surg, Ortho/Neuro/Surgical, Heart & Vascular, Oncology, and Observation
- First-time travelers accepted if they meet experience and Epic requirements
- Two days of orientation including facility and department onboarding, plus two precepted shifts
- Work with support from charge nurses (non-assigned), CNAs (1:8), phlebotomy, RT, and on-site hospitalists
- Audits for pain scoring compliance; expected to maintain at least 90% compliance
- Navy blue scrub color required

- Holiday RTO requests may be limited; blackout dates apply for annual local events
- Active SD or compact RN license required
- Minimum of 1 year recent PCU RN experience
- Epic experience required (especially for first-time travelers)
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Formal nursing education approved by a board of nursing
- Comfortable with both Med/Surg and IMC patient assignments, including drip titration for heparin, insulin, Cardizem, amiodarone, Levophed (up to 5 mcg), and select other antihypertensives
- Must live at least 100 miles from any Monument Health facility
- Former permanent staff must wait one year before returning as a traveler
