Opportunity Details:

• Location: Birmingham & Pell City, AL
• Contract Type: Locum Tenens – Emergency Medicine Physician
• Facility Type: Community Hospitals (ED volumes: 27,000 – 37,000 visits annually)
• Start Date: ASAP – Emergency Privileges for Clean Files
• Coverage Duration: 6+ Months
• Monthly Shift Commitment: Up to 96 shifts total across 3 sites
• EMR System: Cerner
• Credentialing: 90–120 days (Clean Files Eligible for Emergency Privileges)

Scheduling Overview (Per Site)

Birmingham – Site A

• Physician Coverage: 30 MD hours/day

  • 6a–4p, 2p–12a, 8p–6a (Monday shifts extended 30 mins)

• APP Coverage: 37 hours/day (Weekdays), 27 hours/day (Weekends)

  • 8a–5p, 11a–8p, 5p–2a, 11a–9p (Mon–Fri PIT)

Birmingham – Site B

• Physician Coverage: 40 MD hours/day

  • 6a–2p, 8a–4p, 2p–10p, 4p–1a, 10p–6a (Monday shifts extended 30 mins)

• APP Coverage: 20 hours/day (Weekdays), 10 hours/day (Weekends)

  • 11a–9p (7 days/week + PIT)

Pell City – Site C

• Physician Coverage: 24 MD hours/day

  • 6a–6p, 6p–6a

• APP Coverage: 20 hours/day

  • 9a–7p, 1p–11p (7 days/week)

Position Overview:

• Cross-credential once, work at three central Alabama EDs

• High-volume emergency departments (avg. 74–97 patients/day)

• Advanced practice support with dedicated PIT models (at two sites)

• Fast-track models in place at applicable locations

• Flexible shift options: days, nights, and swing shifts available

• Long-term stability with consistent monthly scheduling

Candidate Requirements:

• Licensure: Active Alabama Medical License & Unrestricted DEA

• Board Certification: ABEM/ABOEM preferred; BE accepted per site policy

• Certifications: ACLS required

• Credentialing: Emergency privileges available for clean files; 90–120 days otherwise
