American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Intermediate Care (IMC) position requiring an active IL RN license and strong telemetry and cardiac care skills.
Responsibilities- Position is in the Intermediate Care (IMC) unit of an acute care, Level I trauma, Magnet teaching hospital
- Night shifts available with options for 3x12 or 4x12 hour schedules (18:45-07:15)
- Every other weekend required
- Average daily census is 38 patients
- Floating required to similar units and possibly to affiliate hospitals
- Patient populations include post-cardiac surgery, telemetry, stepdown, neurological, and complex medical cases
- Uses Cerner EMR; previous Cerner experience required
- No on-call responsibilities
- Daily duties include monitoring and managing complex patients requiring continuous telemetry and advanced nursing interventions
- Experience with post-cardiac procedures, various types of lines, wound care, and isolation protocols is essential
- Previous charge nurse, teaching hospital, and trauma experience preferred but not mandatory
- First-time travelers are welcome to apply
- Candidates must be able to work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Scrubs may be any solid color
- Parking permit is provided at no cost
- A maximum of 5 non-holiday RTO days is preferred
- Locals are accepted with no radius restrictions
- Active IL RN license required at time of application
- Minimum 2 years of recent MS/Tele, Telemetry, Cardiac Tele, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown nursing experience
- BLS and ACLS certifications required (AHA or Red Cross only; no RQI)
- Demonstrated expertise in cardiac monitoring, management of dysrhythmias, telemetry (remote and unit-based), and emergency response
- Proficiency in procedures related to post-cardiac cath, sheath removal, feeding tube management, IV therapy, medication drips, and respiratory care including chest tubes, CPAP/BIPAP, and high-flow oxygen
- Experience caring for neurological patients including CVA
- Prior Cerner charting experience required
- Must not have been a permanent or PRN employee at the hospital or health system within the past 12 months
