The Pathology Physician serves as the Chief of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, overseeing all clinical and administrative functions within the department at a VA Medical Center. This role includes leadership, programmatic and academic oversight, ensuring high-quality pathology and laboratory services integrated with patient care. The position requires expertise in anatomic pathology and acts as the primary advocate for pathology services within the medical center.

The major duties of a Physician - Chief will include but are not limited to:
- Responsible for all clinical and administrative functions of the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine service.
- Exercises administrative, programmatic, clinical, anatomical and academic oversight of pathology and laboratory programs to ensure delivery of quality services.
- Serves as the role model (clinical administrator) by providing and monitoring pathology and laboratory care.
- Integrates the pathology and laboratory services into primary functions of the organization.
- Serves as the principle spokesperson and advocate for pathology and laboratory programs within the VA Medical Center.
- Ensures communication and coordination between the Medical Center laboratory services and the clinical/patient care services.
- Board Certified or Board Eligible in a related specialty - Anatomic Pathology.
