The Advanced Endoscopist provides specialized diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic care for patients with complex gastrointestinal and pancreaticobiliary disorders. This role focuses on advanced endoscopic procedures, multidisciplinary collaboration, and evidence-based care to improve patient outcomes in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesEvaluate and manage patients with complex gastrointestinal, biliary, and pancreatic conditions
Perform advanced endoscopic procedures consistent with training and privileges, including ERCP, EUS, advanced polypectomy, endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), and management of gastrointestinal bleeding
Provide inpatient gastroenterology consultation services and outpatient clinic care
Collaborate with hepatology, surgery, oncology, radiology, and interventional teams for comprehensive patient management
Interpret diagnostic studies including pathology, imaging, and laboratory data related to endoscopic care
Participate in multidisciplinary case conferences and tumor boards as applicable
Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, procedural risks, benefits, and follow-up care
Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
Participate in quality improvement, patient safety, and outcomes initiatives
Supervise and educate fellows, residents, advanced practice providers, or endoscopy staff as applicable
Comply with all regulatory, accreditation, and professional standards
Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited medical school
Completion of an accredited Internal Medicine residency program
Completion of an accredited Gastroenterology fellowship program
Completion of an accredited Advanced Endoscopy fellowship
Board-eligible or board-certified in Gastroenterology
Ability to obtain and maintain unrestricted state medical licensure
DEA registration or eligibility
Expertise in advanced endoscopic techniques and therapeutic interventions
Strong clinical judgment and procedural decision-making skills
Ability to manage complex gastrointestinal cases
Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
Commitment to evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and patient safety
Endoscopy suites, hospital inpatient units, ambulatory surgery centers, and outpatient clinics
Call responsibilities including after-hours coverage as required
Ability to stand for extended periods during procedures
Manual dexterity and stamina for complex endoscopic interventions
Visual and auditory acuity sufficient for procedural and clinical care
