The Nurse Practitioner on the Inpatient Pain Team provides specialized care for pediatric patients experiencing acute and chronic pain in a hospital setting. They collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to assess patients, develop treatment plans, and ensure optimal care outcomes. The role also involves staff education, participation in safety initiatives, and requires specialized pediatric and critical care experience.
Nurse Practitioner, Inpatient Pain Team
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing care to infants, children, adolescents, young adults with pain from acute and chronic illnesses or those weaning sedatives after a recent critical illness in the inpatient setting.
- Collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to conduct patient assessments, medical histories, physical exams and develop a plan of care based on the source of pain and patient needs.
- Facilitating collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary team and other consulting services to provide comprehensive care for optimal patient outcomes.
- Participating in quality and safety initiatives and research.
- Providing consultation and education to staff members, patients and families as needed on pertinent topics
- 40 hours per week, less than 50% day/night rotation, 12 hour shifts, with every 4th weekend
Education:
- A Master’s Degree in Nursing
- 3-5 years’ experience in a pediatric setting, ideally with a pediatric intensive care background
- Excellent critical thinking and communication skills are required
- A current MA NP license
- BLS and PALS certification

The posted pay range is Boston Children’s reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
