American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night shift Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring a NE or compact license and competency in arterial line care.
Responsibilities- Work in a hospital acute care setting on the 40-bed Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Adult patients with cardiac, med/surg, dialysis, cancer, vascular, sepsis, respiratory, stroke, and post-cardiac intervention needs
- Nurse to patient ratio is 1:4-5 for both day and night shifts
- RNs monitor and titrate cardiac drips including Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, and insulin
- RNs must read and interpret their own telemetry strips
- Use of EPIC electronic charting system
- 12-hour night shifts, every other weekend and minimum of two holidays during the contract
- Floating required to Med-Surg or ICU (to take PCU acuity patients)
- High flow oxygen therapy and overhead/portable lifts available
- Nursing assistants and patient care techs provide additional support
- Responsibilities include managing a complex adult cardiac/med-surg caseload and performing advanced patient monitoring
- Must be flexible, adaptable, a strong team player, and have excellent communication skills
- Focus on patient experience, responsiveness, and clear communication about medications
- Diverse patient population served, including primarily Hispanic and Somalian communities
- One day of unit-specific orientation provided, including an open book, pass/fail exam on skills learned (90% required to pass)
- Navy blue scrubs required
- Requested time off (RTO) must be submitted at the time of application; maximum of 7 days per 13-week contract
- No blocked scheduling unless weekends only
- First-time travelers are accepted
- Active NE or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum of 2 years RN experience required
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (all active; pending certifications not accepted)
- Competency with arterial lines required
- Ability to titrate cardiac drips and interpret cardiac monitor telemetry strips
- Experience with EPIC electronic documentation preferred
- Cannot have been employed (full time, part time, or PRN) by any facility affiliated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity) in the past year
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility; driver’s license required for verification
- Must provide two professional references (one supervisor from last 12 months, one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years)
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
