A Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Rheumatologist provides PRN support conducting Veterans disability evaluations and Independent Medical Opinions (IMOs), primarily remotely with occasional travel. The role involves detailed chart reviews, expert medical assessments of rheumatology-related conditions, and in-person exams as needed. This position supports the VA in determining appropriate benefits with accurate documentation and flexible scheduling.
Overview
We are seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Rheumatologist (MD/DO) to provide PRN support for Veterans disability evaluations and Independent Medical Opinions (IMOs). This role is primarily remote but may include occasional travel for in-person exams. The percentage of remote work versus travel will vary depending on caseload and assignment needs.
This is a unique opportunity for a subspecialist who is passionate about serving Veterans and offering their expertise to support fair and accurate disability benefit determinations.
Key Details
Work Type: PRN, flexible scheduling
Location: Primarily remote; occasional travel required
Compensation:
1/2 day rate for completion of 1 IMO
Full day rate for completion of 2 IMOs
Full day rate for in-person exams
Travel days compensated at 1/2 day rate (front and back)
All travel expenses covered
Responsibilities
Conduct thorough chart reviews and develop clear, detailed IMOs specific to rheumatology-related conditions.
Provide medical expertise in complex cases where Veterans have likely already been through the standard exam process.
Perform occasional in-person examinations as needed, with travel supported.
Deliver expert-level, specialty-specific evaluations to assist the VA in determining appropriate benefits.
Maintain accurate, timely documentation in accordance with program requirements.
Qualifications
MD or DO, Board-Certified or Board-Eligible in Rheumatology required
Active, unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
Strong written communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate medical findings.
