American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an ICU Float Pool position in Colorado, requiring a compact or CO RN license and strong critical care skills.
Responsibilities- Work in an acute care ICU Float Pool covering multiple ICU specialties including MICU, SICU, TICU, and CVICU
- Cares for general ICU patient populations, including high acuity cases requiring CRRT, IABP, and Impella
- Nurse-to-patient ratios range from 1:1 to 1:2 based on acuity, with occasional flexing up to 1:3
- Floating required throughout all designated hospitals within a 60-mile radius (Zone 1, Colorado Springs area)
- Shifts are 12-hours, nights, with 6-9 weekend shifts in each 6-week schedule rotation
- May be required to float to PCU/Stepdown or MS-Tele units as needed
- No home base facility; assignment site varies based on weekly needs
- Uses Epic EMR; Epic experience preferred for first-time travelers
- RNs are responsible for managing complex ICU patients and can be asked to float to any unit within their competency
- No nurse aides on unit, with the exception of sitters as needed
- RNs should be able to troubleshoot and support respiratory equipment including ventilators, Cpap, Bipap, and high flow oxygen
- Schedule is determined by leadership for 6-week blocks and flexibility is expected
- Holiday rotation may be required
- Any color scrubs are permitted
- Unit orientation includes 1-2 days with a preceptor
- Rare on-call requirements for low census situations
- Returning employees must not have worked for CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity Health in the past year as direct hires
- Active CO or compact RN license required at the time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years recent ICU experience required; first-time travelers need 3+ years of ICU experience and prior Epic experience
- Current AHA BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications required
- Must be comfortable titrating all critical drips, including pressors, sedation, paralytics, antiarrhythmics, heparin, and insulin
- Ability to independently monitor and interpret telemetry strips without monitor tech support
- Must reside outside of a 60-mile radius from the city center of the float zone
- Driver's license required for consideration
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from the past 12 months and one peer or supervisor from the last 3 years
