American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg position in an acute care setting with a trauma level II requirement and Epic charting experience.
Responsibilities- Work on a 30-bed Med/Surg unit within an acute care hospital
- Patient population includes post-op total joints, spinal and urology procedures, abdominal and bariatric surgeries, medical overflow, and patients with hemovacs, JP drains, and colostomies
- Day shift, 12-hour shifts (0700-1930), with first to float expectations
- Every other weekend and holiday coverage required
- Nurse to patient ratios: Days 1:4-5, Nights 1:5-6
- Will float to medical and telemetry units as needed
- Epic EMR system is used on this unit
- Charge nurse present on both shifts, with nights occasionally taking low acuity assignment
- Support staff includes a patient care tech with a 1:12 tech to patient ratio
- Remote tele packs used, monitor tech is responsible for reading and interpreting strips
- Block scheduling may be considered depending on unit needs
- Role includes frequent care of post-operative and surgical patients, early ambulation, and management of drains
- Bedside shift report is standard practice on this unit
- Positive, close-knit team culture is emphasized
- Any color scrubs may be worn
- First time travelers are welcome to apply
- Requested time off (RTO) must be submitted upfront and may not exceed 7 days over the 13-week contract; additional RTO will not be approved
- Active ND or compact RN license required and must be in hand at time of consideration
- Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg RN experience required
- Current BLS certification required
- Supply a copy of a valid driver’s license
- Epic charting experience preferred
- Surgical, post-op, and early ambulation experience is highly preferred
- Must provide two professional references (one supervisor from the last 12 months, one peer or supervisor from the past 3 years)
- Candidates may not have been employed (full time, part time, or PRN) with any facility associated with CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity within the past year
- Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
