The Maintenance Technician is responsible for repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment primarily in the wood products industry. The role requires welding, metal fabrication, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring safety compliance including issuing hot work permits. Candidates must have at least three years of experience, possess millwright certification, and oversee quality workmanship and contractor coordination.
Minimum basic skills and abilities for the position are as follows:
Must have minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Wood Products or related industry as a mechanical millwright, attend West Fraser Qualified Millwright Training, complete competency checklist per level, score at a Level 2 on the Millwright assessment, and have own tools
General mechanical working knowledge:

- Repair/replace/maintain, all mobile equipment parts as well as chains, sprockets, bearings, belts, gearbox, motors, etc.
- Metal fabrication
- Welding; arc, acetylene, and others.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic equipment
- Align and calibrate equipment
- Perform preventive maintenance.
- Hand Power Tools; drill, sander, grinder, band saw, etc.
- Construction/structural assembly.
- Measurements reading English/Metric; tape, caliper, ruler and other.
- Accountable for working safely
- Must provide quality workmanship.
- Must assign work and confirm completion.
- Direct and ensure quality work from contractors.
- Issuing hot work permits to meet AON guidelines.
General safety knowledge:

- Personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Lockout and Tag out.
- Fall Protection
Housekeeping:
-
- Maintain working area clean, shop, field area, vehicle and other.
- Keep working equipment/shop tools orderly.
