American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Oncology unit with telemetry experience and night shift requirements.
Responsibilities- Work in an acute care setting on a 28-bed Med/Surg Oncology unit with full telemetry monitoring
- Handles a combination of oncology and general med/surg patients, including hospice inpatients
- Patient ratios are 1:4-5
- Night shifts, 12-hours in length, with every other weekend required
- Primary location is St Joseph Medical Center, but floating to other units within the Med/Surg/Tele service line and regional hospitals may be required
- Epic EMR system is used, and experience with Epic is preferred
- Charge nurse is present on each shift; typically, does not take patients
- CNA support is provided, with two CNAs on nights for the unit
- CPAP or BiPap equipment is managed by respiratory therapists; nurses administer nebs, breathing treatments, and suctioning of tracheostomies
- Main responsibilities include providing nursing care for oncology and med/surg patients, interpreting telemetry, and administering titratable drips
- Will be required to float within the Med/Surg/Tele service line and to regional hospitals as needed, according to union guidelines
- Orientation includes Epic training (with option to test out) and 1-2 days of preceptorship
- Scrub dress code is professional-looking scrubs with closed-toe shoes
- Unit features centralized telemetry monitoring and strong CNA support structure
- Holiday coverage is required, rotating with permanent staff
- No call or standby requirements
- Active WA or compact RN license required at time of consideration; pending licenses not accepted
- Minimum of 2 years RN experience required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Oncology nursing experience is mandatory
- Chemo certification through ONS is preferred
- Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips is required
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam during onboarding
- Experience with titrating drips (heparin, Cardizem) required
- Experience with central lines and ports (accessing and dressing changes) preferred
