Ferrous & Non-Ferrous Yard Manager
Oversees the full scope of yard operations, ensuring safe, efficient handling and processing of incoming and outgoing metal material. Responsible for driving throughput, maintaining quality standards, and optimizing recovery across both ferrous and non-ferrous streams while leading and developing yard personnel.
Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day ferrous and non-ferrous processing, including receiving, sorting, grading, shearing, and shipment.
- Manage yard personnel—assign tasks, train staff, monitor productivity, enforce safety and environmental compliance.
- Maintain equipment performance and uptime; schedule repairs, inspections, and preventative maintenance.
- Oversee inventory accuracy, scale tickets, material flow, and quality control to ensure maximum recovery value.
- Collaborate with buyers, logistics, and leadership to improve throughput, reduce costs, and support profitable material movement.
- Ensure a clean, organized, and compliant yard according to OSHA and company standards.
Qualifications
- Experience managing operations in a ferrous/non-ferrous scrap yard or related industrial environment.
- Strong knowledge of metal grades, specs, processing equipment, and recovery practices.
- Proven leadership abilities with experience supervising crews in fast-paced, heavy industrial settings.
- Working knowledge of safety programs, equipment operation, and environmental regulations.
- Ability to read scale reports, track inventory, and manage production metrics.
- Mechanical aptitude and familiarity with shears, balers, torches, loaders, cranes, magnets, and other yard equipment.
