Physical Therapist (PT)

Location: Sault St Marie, MI
Schedule: Full-time | Day Shift | Flexible Hours
Sign-on Bonus: $20,000 (2-year commitment)
Starting Rate: $37.00/hr and up, based on experience

Position Summary

The Physical Therapist is responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care through assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in accordance with physical therapy standards and physician orders. This position delegates tasks appropriately to Physical Therapist Assistants and Aides and collaborates closely with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members to optimize functional outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate patient function through formal and informal testing to assess skeletal, neurological, respiratory, and cardiovascular status.
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings, patient tolerance, and physician orders.
• Document and update treatment regimes and care plans, ensuring compliance with affiliate and regulatory standards.
• Educate patients, families, and caregivers on diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy techniques including exercise, modalities, and functional mobility strategies.
• Coordinate care and schedule treatment sessions specific to patient needs, frequency, and duration.
• Supervise PT Assistants, Aides, and students in accordance with state and organizational guidelines.
• Recommend and facilitate procurement of adaptive/supportive equipment as needed.
• Maintain documentation for patient progress, billing, and regulatory compliance.
• Participate in interdisciplinary meetings, process improvement initiatives, and program development.
• Promote physical therapy services and patient education within the organization and the community.

Qualifications

Education

• Graduate of an accredited Physical Therapy program approved by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA).
• Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctorate in Physical Therapy.

Licensure & Certifications

• Current Physical Therapist license in the State of Michigan (or eligibility).
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification within 1 month of hire.
• APTA membership preferred.

Experience & Skills

• Completion of orientation and competency requirements per affiliate policy.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and demonstrate sound clinical judgment.
• Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Windows environment).
• Valid Michigan driver’s license and reliable transportation (as applicable to home care or off-site services).

Physical Requirements

• Physical Demand Level: Medium
  • Lift/carry: 21–50 lbs occasionally; 20 lbs frequently.
  • Frequent standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
• Must be able to wear PPE and follow OSHA safety standards.
• Ability to handle multiple priorities and maintain composure in stressful situations.
• Regular and predictable attendance required.
