Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan or compact state
• BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification – required before first shift
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) Certification – required before first shift
• Minimum 2 years of recent bedside clinical experience in a Med/Surg nursing setting
• Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills

Med/Surg RN Responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and develop individualized care plans for medical-surgical patients
• Provide direct patient care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation
• Supervise and support Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), and new staff
• Accurately document all assessments, interventions, and patient responses in the electronic health record
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure continuity and quality of patient care
• Promote patient and staff safety by following hospital policies and clinical safety protocols
• Participate in patient and family education, discharge planning, and interdisciplinary team meetings
• Foster a positive and efficient work environment through teamwork and effective communication
• Assume charge nurse duties as needed after orientation
• Engage in ongoing professional development and continuing education
