American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a night-shift ICU position, requiring a compact or ME license and at least one year of recent ICU experience.
Responsibilities- Work in a mixed-acuity ICU within a hospital setting
- Unit consists of 9 ICU beds with both ICU and Med Surg level patients
- Patient types include vented patients, sepsis, PNA, DKA, CHF, COPD, detox, surgical complications, and rare overnight pediatric post-ops
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:3, based on acuity
- Uses Cerner EMR
- Night shifts from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. with every other weekend rotation
- May float to Med Surg or ED as needed; patient ratios are 1:5 days and 1:6 nights on Med Surg
- No on-call requirements
- Main responsibilities include caring for critically ill adult and occasional pediatric patients with various acute conditions
- Charge nurse typically takes a patient assignment; additional support includes 24/7 RT and hospitalist coverage
- Unit has centralized tele monitoring tech and intensivist available for consultation
- General hospital and unit orientation provided, including online modules and one unit shift; additional charge training provided as applicable
- Flu vaccination required unless a valid medical exemption is approved
- Professional scrubs of any color are permitted
- Free parking is available onsite
- First-time travelers will be considered for this position
- Holiday coverage is required as needed
- Time off must be approved by manager
- Active ME or compact RN license required
- Minimum of 2 years RN experience with at least 1 year in ICU
- Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and PALS
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac strips for ICU and Med Surg
- Experience or willingness to be trained as Charge RN as needed
- Experience with vents, chest tubes, trachs, wound vacs, IVs, PCAs, epidurals (rare), CVP lines, A-line care, insulin and cardiac drips
- Experience with Cerner EMR preferred
- Must not have previously worked at any Northern Light Health hospital in a permanent capacity
- Candidates must reside at least 100 miles South/SW of Bangor, Maine
