A Gastroenterology Physician provides specialized medical care diagnosing and treating diseases of the digestive system through various endoscopic procedures. The role requires board certification or eligibility, active state licensure, and proficiency in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic techniques including ERCP, biopsies, and endoscopic ultrasounds. Responsibilities include both outpatient and inpatient care, managing patient caseloads, and handling 24-hour call coverage.
Shift: clinical hours plus call or 24-hour call only
Coverage Type: Outpatient, Inpatient
EMR: McKesson and Athena
Patient Per Shift: 10+ per day
Requirements:
- Board Status: Board Certified or Board Eligible in Gastroenterology
- Active NC State License only.
- Certifications: BLS
Key Details:
- Upper GI Endoscopy with Biopsy, foreign body removal, and fulguration of bleeder (cautery vs. laser) required
- ERCP Diagnostic and Therapeutic with PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy) required
- Esophageal dilatation/manometry required
- Esophageal manometry interpretation required
- Small Bowel biopsy required
- Lower GI endoscopy required
- Sigmoidoscopy (Flexible) required
- Colonoscopy with biopsy and excision of the polyp required
- Liver biopsy preferred
- Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) preferred
- Insertion/management of Sengstaken/Blakemore tub preferred
